Kurukshetra is an Indian film based on the Mahabharat Epic written in Sanskrit by sage Veda Vyas. Set in 3000 BCE, it tells the story of Kurukshetra war fought between five tribes known as Pandavas and 100 Kauravas. The battle was considered to be the most destructive war in human history with casualties estimated to be more than 18 million The film showcases two different perspectives, one from Bhisma (who’s on the side of Pandavas) and another from Drona (who’s on the side of Kauravas). The film focuses on the relationship between Drona and his son Ashwatthama, along with Ashwatthama’s point of view of the war. This is an adaptation of Karna Parva, Sushant Singh Rajput plays the role of Karna, which was played by Sanjay Dutt in an earlier version. Veda Vyas' original Sanskrit epic has been divided into two parts. The first part was released on 6 April 2018. The second part is set to be released in 2019. The film has been directed by Akshat Verma and produced by Anu Malik and Hi Film. The film is scheduled to release on 24 April 2018The music of the movie is composed by Pritam Chakraborty and lyrics are penned by Shabbir Ahmed, Gulzar, Kumaar and Javed Akhtar. Akshay Kumar was roped in to dub for his association with Pritam's compositions. The movie had good openings at the multiplexes of India.The film did moderately well at the box office of overseas markets. Sushant Singh Rajput, who came into limelight for his portrayal of Karna in the 2004 blockbuster "Krrish", was reportedly paid eight crores to play Karna's role, playing opposite Sanjay Dutt again in this film. Though he had initially refused to reprise his role in this film, but later on got lured by the demands of the film's makers. Raveena Tandon made a comeback to acting after a sabbatical of several years by playing Draupadi in this film. Varun Dhawan and Aditi Rao Hydari played Kunti and Dushyant respectively in the film, while Ranveer Singh appeared in a cameo as Sikandar.
